Prof. Manfred Fuchs awarded honorary doctorate

Polytechnic University of Milan granting doctorate in recognition of services to aerospace and aeronautics technology for the first time

The CEO of Bremen-based space-technology company OHB-System AG, Prof. Manfred Fuchs, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the Polytechnic University of Milan. In an official ceremony held last Thursday, Prof. Fuchs received the Laurea Honoris Causa in Ingegneria Spaziale, the honorary doctorate in recognition of his services to aerospace technology (Dr. h.c.). This marked the first time that the Faculty of Aerospace and Aeronautical Technology had awarded an honorary doctorate. Prof. Fuchs received the title in recognition of his services in Italy.

In her speech, the presenter of the title, Prof. Amalia Ercoli Finzi, particularly stressed Prof. Fuchs’ services as well as the cordial relations between the Polytechnic University and Milan-based space technology company Carlo Gavazzi Space SpA. Prof. Fuchs had bought Carlo Gavazzi Space in 1995, turning it into the top mid-size space technology company in Italy.

In addition to Prof. Fuchs, Amedeo Caporaletti, CEO of helicopter maker AgustaWestland also received an honorary doctorate for services to aviation engineering. With roughly 42,000 students, Politecnico di Milan is Italy’s largest technical university.
