Second successful launch of the 10-ton Ariane
In the early hours of Thursday morning, the heavy-lift Ariane 5 ECA launcher successfully placed two telecommunications in geostationary transfer orbits. At 12.46 a.m. CET, the Ariane 5 ECA lifted off from the European launch pad in Kourou, French-Guyana. Just under half an hour later it released its two payloads, the US SPACEWAY 2 satellite and the Indonesian TELEKOM-2 satellite, as planned.
The ARIANE 5 ECA is the most powerful European rocket and capable of carrying two satellites with a total mass of up to ten tons, four tons more than the Ariane 5, at the same time.
“This further successful launch of the ARIANE 5 ECA will reinforce and safeguard the commercial success of the entire ARIANE program,” says Hans J. Steininger, CFO of MT Aerospace AG, Augsburg, a subsidiary of OHB Technology AG (ISIN: DE0005936124) and the largest German supplier of components for the ARIANE 5.
With this second successful launch, the ECA version of the Ariane 5 has once and for all proved its viability for commercial satellite transportation and regained customer confidence. This means greater production continuity for MT Aerospace.
